The Book of Psalms

a SONG to SING

Words to Pray

Psalms helps us express ourselves to the Lord.
It reminds us we can lament
and express our grief to God.

The Psalms remind us to remember the God
who is the beginning and end of all things,
to rest in His sovereignty,
and to have joy in all circumstances.

Psalms represent Hebrew poetic literature
which was very much emotive,
meaning that it spoke to
the mind via the heart.
The beauty in learning to pray The Psalms is that we discover ancient truths about the character of God.

We see that dilemmas and struggles
are not new and God has given us a beautiful poetic manual,
Graciously allowing us to
feel the full expression of those struggles and respond rightly.

PSALM FOR THIS WEEK

PSALM 1

Psalm 1:1-6 ESV1
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.

He is like a treeplanted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.

The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.
