A thankful heart will be an overflowing heart. A true measure of how grateful we are is the extent to which we choose to bless others.
Henri Nouwen was an esteemed Christian leader and teacher who established the L’Arche Daybreak community in Richmond Hill, Ontario, providing dignity and care for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. He often spoke about the spirituality of giving. Rightly, he taught, as we believe, that it is a privilege to invite people to contribute financially to God’s work because it:
Brings us into community. What greater privilege than to be part of “We Family”, where we can join in one spirit to be God’s people, together, not alone!
Helps us to be fruitful. What greater joy than to be known as the people who join together to do the works that Jesus did, and even greater works we will do!
Ensures the reward of a legacy that lasts eternally. What an honour to be welcomed home at the end of this journey and to hear the Father say, “Well done good and faithful servant”!
I’m so grateful to be part of a church that can speak about money, knowing that the motivation is to honour God with our gifts and see lives and families changed forever.
