Remember the children’s game “Telephone”? The first person would share a secret phrase with the next and it would get passed down a line of people until the last person blurted out the phrase they had heard. Everyone would then laugh at how mixed up the message had become. Someone might even purposefully sabotage the message along the way just to get a good laugh! In 2 Timothy 2:2, the Apostle Paul shares God’s plan for passing on the life-changing message of the gospel:
“You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now (you) teach these truths to other trustworthy people
who will be able to pass them on to others.”
Clearly God puts a lot of trust in us not to mix up the message but, equally importantly, entrusts us to make sure it doesn’t just end with us. Paul mentions four generations of leaders: me, you, trustworthy people, others. Gospel sharing isn’t an individual event — it’s a team effort and it is meant to multiply!
As a church, we have experienced nothing short of an outpouring of God’s grace and blessing over the past decade as we’ve grown in number, influence and opportunity. With that comes increased responsibility; responsibility of making sure even more people are exposed to God’s good news. The best part about this responsibility is that fulfilling it is a team effort, and God has given us a great team to do it: a DREAM TEAM!
Unlike other teams you may have tried out for in the past, GT’s DREAM TEAM is open to anyone who wants to serve, lead, and help the mission of reaching our neighbours for Jesus. The DREAM TEAM consists of everyone who serves and leads at Glad Tidings. Although the title is new, you’re likely already on the Team. If you aren’t, we’d love to have you!
As church leadership has prayed and thought through the next season of ministry at GT, a core mandate that has risen to the surface has been increased intentional development of our DREAM TEAM leaders. “Leadership is influence” as they say, and we all influence someone. So, intentionally developing leadership skills and learning new ones to increase our capacity to lead is a wise stewardship of our time and talent. Our hope is that investing in our leaders in a fresh way at GT will enable us to continue developing the effectiveness of the ministries offered through the church. We also want empower our Team Members to influence others for Jesus wherever they find themselves, be it work, home, school or anywhere else.
If they haven’t already, your leaders will be sharing with you how these initiatives will look in any ministries where you currently serve. To get started serving on a team, contact the church office and we’ll help you take your next step!
